Musk to Twitter Users: xAI Focusing on Solving Mysteries of Universe

Musk to Twitter Users

Elon Musk joked that the mission statement of his new artificial intelligence business, xAI, could be rephrased as: “What the hell is really going on?” on Friday when he expressed of understanding the universe by the process of forming the enterprise.

The billionaire noted that he thinks creating an AI that is inquisitive and truth-seeking is the safest method to construct one in a debate on Twitter Spaces, “I guess the overarching goal of xAI is to build a good AI with the overarching purpose of just trying to understand the universe.”

“I mean, understanding the universe is the entire purpose of physics. So, I think it’s actually really clear – there’s just so much that we don’t understand right now. Or, we think we understand, but actually, we don’t in reality. So, there’s still a lot of unresolved questions that are extremely fundamental,” the SpaceX founder remarked.

Musk referred to unanswered questions like dark matter, dark energy, the nature of gravity, and the fermi paradox, which states that Earth should have already been visited by extraterrestrial life at this point.

“If anyone would have seen evidence of aliens, it’s probably me. And yet, I have not seen even one tiny shred of evidence for aliens,” he told his xAI employees, highlighting that humans “may actually be the only thing, at least in this part of the galaxy.”

The co-founder of Tesla also pointed out that there is a cosmically brief window before the sun expands and heats the oceans.

According to NASA, when the sun begins to die, it will grow into a red giant star that might perhaps swallow Earth. Scientists estimate that the solar is just short of halfway through its expected lifetime.
